Voss and Soli record goals to lead CSB Soccer past Hamline, 2-0

ST JOSEPH, Minn. – With goals from Alli Voss and Avery Soli, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team (2-3-0, 1-1-0 MIAC) recorded a 2-0 win over Hamline University (1-4-1, 0-1-1 MIAC) in MIAC play on Saturday, September 16 at the CSB Soccer Field.

CSB ended a two-game losing streak and opened the home schedule with a win. CSB is now 8-0-1 over the last two seasons at home.

After a scoreless first half, the Bennies opened the scoring when first year Averi Soli (Ham Lake, Minn/ Blaine) netted her first career goal at 70:54. CSB continued its second half momentum when junior Alli Voss (Edina, Minn./ Benilde St Margaret's) scored the second goal of the game and the 16th of her career. Assisting on Voss's goal was Emma Young (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) at 73:11. Young tallied her third career assist.

CSB head coach Steve Kimble was pleased about his team's outstanding defense and energy.

"It was a really good team win - we are super proud of Avery," said Kimble following the victory. "It is always good when our first years score their first collegiate goal," he said. "Overall, we had a solid defensive effort from our back line and (goalkeeper) Annie (Waters), of course. It is always good to get a win against a MIAC opponent," said Kimble.

Voss and Soli both had a pair of shots to lead CSB, who had a 9-to-4 shots edge for the game. CSB also had a 4-to-1 edge in corners.

The College of Saint Benedict soccer team will have a quick turn around as they host Wartburg College (2-3-1) of the American Rivers conference at CSB Soccer Field tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 17) at 2:00 p.m.
