ST. PETER, Minn. –
Ashley Tarrolly recorded her sixth straight win but the College of Saint Benedict (8-6, 5-3 MIAC), lost 8-1 to regionally No. 9 ranked Gustavus Adolphus (14-11, 7-0 MIAC) on Sunday, April 16, at the Swanson Tennis Center.
"Ashley (Tarrolly) had a big win at No. 1 singles," said CSB head coach Jack Bowe, whose team will look to end a three-game slide as the Bennies host Bethel on April 22 in St. Peter, Minn. "We competed but Gustavus played well and is a really solid team. We will look to bounce back next weekend against Bethel and Carleton," he said.
CSB, which is 8-6 overall, is tied for fifth in the MIAC with St. Olaf at 5-3. Gustavus Adolphus (14-11 overall) is a half-game out of first place at 7-0 with Carleton at 8-0 and 16-0 overall.
In a matchup of regionally ranked opponents, Tarrolly won a tiebreaker to earn the win which was her sixth in a row. In moving to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the MIAC, she defeated Yuki Oda of Gustavus, 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (12-10). Tarrolly won her second straight match that has gone to tiebreaker.
At No. 2 singles,
Peyton Kopel is 7-7 overall and 4-4 in MIAC play after dropping a 6-2, 6-0 decision to regionally-ranked Allison Szalay.
At No. 3 singles, sophomore
Greta Nesbit fell to 8-6 overall and 6-2 in league play after a 6-1, 6-0 setback to Molly Austin.
Jane Bodensteiner fell to Alli Laux of Gustavus by a 6-1, 6-0 score. Bodensteiner is 10-3 overall and 6-2 in MIAC play.
Sophomore
Sophia Jonas is 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC after a 6-2, 6-0 setback to Pavla Yakimova.
At No. 6 singles, CSB's
Maria Bedford fell to 12-2 and 7-2 in the MIAC after falling to Brooke Haddorfff, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles play, CSB lost all three matches. In a regionally-ranked No. 1 doubles match, Tarrolly/Kopel was defeated by Austin/Szalay, 8-0. Tarrolly/Kopel now stand 6-3 overall and 4-3 in MIAC Play.
At No. 2 doubles,
Anne Bowe and Sophia Jnas lost to Emily Norman and Yuki Oda, 8-2. Bowe/Jonas stand 2-4 overall and 1-3 in MIAC play.
At No. 3 doubles, Bodensteiner/Bedford fell to Alli Laux and Renata Hernandez of Gustavus, 8-3. As a team, Bedford/Bodensteiner is now 9-3 and 5-2 in the MIAC as they lost for the second time this year.
