SARTELL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict Tennis Team (1-0, 1-0 MIAC) successfully opened the 2023 campaign with a 9-0 decision over St. Scholastica (1-3, 0-2 MIAC) on Saturday at Sta-Fit.
"It was a successful opening to the season. I was proud of the team and how they performed today," said CSB Interim Head Coach Jack Bowe, whose team will face Misercordia on its spring break trip in the first of four matches.
Sophomore
Ashley Tarrolly, who was 5-2 a year ago, opened at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Julie Maier. She also teamed with
Peyton Kopel for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles against Mishell Benitez.
Kopel, a junior from Foley, Minn., played No. 2 singles and took a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win over Mishell Benitez.
At No. 3, sophomore
Greta Nesbit of Le Sueur, Minn., took a 6-1, 6-1 win over Anna Ritchie.
At No. 4,
Anne Bowe, a senior from St. Cloud, Minn., captured a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) decision against Katia Bartels.
At No. 5,
Jane Bodensteiner, a junior from Palatine, Ill., had a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Cursta Dimberio as she now has 17 career wins.
At No. 6, St. Cloud, Minn., senior
Maria Bedford opened 2023 with a straight set 6-1, 6-2 decision over Eva Kangas.
Aside from No. 1 doubles, the team of Bowe and Nesbit opened No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win over Ritchie and Annika Lundell. At No. 3 doubles, Bodensteiner and Bedford picked up an 8-6 win over Chloe Hasbergen/Taylor Vyskocil.
