Swim & Dive puts together another strong effort at MIAC Championships

MINNEAPOLIS -- The College of Saint Benedict Swim and Dive Team had another round of strong performances on day three of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. Going into the final day of the championship, CSB remains in fifth place with 248 team points, while St. Catherine leads the women's standings with 452 points. With five more top-10 program marks today, CSB has 13 going into the final day of competition.

Saint Ben's had an outstanding effort in the 400 IM, with the senior duo of Molly Johanson and Fiona Rosko finishing third and fourth respectively. Johanson earned All-MIAC honors as she finished with a season-best time of 4:40.18, while Rosko clocked a season-best 4:42.21, cutting two seconds off her time from the morning prelims.

In the 100 backstroke, the Bennies also had two podium finishes. Junior Lindsay Smutka and first year Rachel Schlueter finished fourth and seventh respectively. Smutka clocked a 57.64, which is an all-time career-best and ranks second all-time at CSB behind current St. Ben's assistant coach Mikayla Von Wahlde. Schlueter posted 59.55 in the finals to record her first top-eight MIAC finish. 

The CSB 200 freestyle relay team of Emi Wagner, Schlueter, Mads Slavik and Smutka combined for a fourth-place finish with a 1:38.48 clocking. 

Other finishes for CSB on the day included, Mads Slavik and Lauren Sitzman in the 100 back, who finished in 9th and 12th respectively. Slavik clocked a 59.55, while Sitzman touched the wall in 1:01.65. In the 100 breaststroke, Megan Bartels finished 13th with a time of 1:10.58, while Sitzman recorded a 15th-place finish with a 2:00.79 clocking in the 200 freestyle.

Saturday's preliminary round begins at 10:30 a.m., while the finals session is schedule to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Follow the action on the MIAC Championship homepage.
