CSB Hockey set to host Dubuque on Dec. 8-9 at Ritsche Arena

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - The College of Saint Benedict hockey team (3-4-2, 3-1-2 MIAC) will face the University of Dubuque (2-6, 2-4-0 NCHA) in a two-home game nonconference series on Dec. 8-9. CSB will host the Spartans at 7 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 8 and at 5 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Ritsche Arena.
 
The Bennies hold a 3-4-2 overall record and 3-1-2 record in the MIAC and sit in third place with 11 MIAC points and tied with Augsburg (5-4, 4-2), (11 points). (RV) Hamline (7-2, 5-1), (14 points) is second in the MIAC with No. 1 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus (7-0-0, 6-0-0 MIAC) in first place with 18 points.
 
Up Next – Schedule 
After their two-game home series against Dubuque (Iowa), the Bennies will be on a break until they host Lake Forest College (Illinois) (7-4-0, 6-2 NCHA) on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m., and on Friday Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. Both nonconference games will be played at Ritsche Arena in St. Cloud, Minn.
 
About the Spartans
Dubuque went 0-2 last week as they fell to Aurora University by scores of 1-9, and 1-5. They also fell to Saint Mary's, 7-0 on Tuesday Dec, 5. The Spartans are in their inaugural season and are directed by head coach Madyson Moore. Senior forward Cassidy Becia leads the team with seven points, including four goals and three assists with 25 shots. First-Year defender Lauren Jeffery has two goals and four assists with 18 shots. First-year forward Madilynn Schiile has three points, with three goals with 22 shots on the season. In goal, Savannah Wuitschick has a 2-6-0 record with 39 goals allowed (4.92 avg.) and a .910 save percentage (393 saves, 49.13 per game, 1st in the NCHA).
  
Series Notes – Dubuque vs. CSB 
This will be the first meeting in history between Bennies and the Spartans. The Spartans are in their inaugural season (2023-24).
  
Inside look at Saint Benedict 
In 2023, the Bennies have totaled 22 goals and allowed 28. The Bennies have been outshot, 301-to-250. In goal, CSB has 218 saves to 162 for their opponents. In power plays, CSB has gone 4-of-32 while opponents are 7-of-36. CSB has won 277 face offs and lost 305 (0.476 percentage). Three players lead CSB in scoring with four each – Ava Stinnett, Aurora Opsahl and Emma Rooks.
  
A returning All-MIAC performer, Opsahl has had four goals this season, including one in the most recent series against Bethel. Opsahl, who has played in 53 career games, scored her 21st career goal in the 3-2 loss to Bethel. She also tallied her first goal of the season in the opener against UW-EC. In her career, she has four-game winning goals and 20 assists. Last year, she played in 26 games, with a career-high of two goals against UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 29, 2022. Opsahl tallied a goal in seven straight games as a sophomore. The seven-goal streak began on January 31, 2022, against UW-Superior.
  
In the third period of the 5-2 win against St. Scholastica, junior Ava Stinnett recorded her fourth goal of the season and the 16th of her career. Stinnett, who also had an assist in the second game of the season against UW-EC, ranks 13th in the MIAC with four goals and 11th in shots with 32. Stinnett, who has played in 58 career games, has 175 shots on net and 19 assists in her career with the Bennies. A year ago, she was third in the MIAC for face-off wins against total faceoffs (261-of-558). She also tied for fifth in the MIAC with four game-winning goals of the seven goals she scored last year. 
  
In that opener, junior  Sydney Hunst had a pair of assists while junior Sami Boerboom also recorded an assist. Hunst has played in 36 games with four career assists and one goal. Boerboom has played in 55 games with eight goals, six assists and 62 shots. 
  
Senior forward Corrine Brown has scored two goals this season, including one against nationally-ranked UW-Eau Claire on the road. She also had the game-winning overtime goal in the 5-4 decision over Concordia on Nov. 11. She now has 13 career goals, 20 assists, 168 shots and has played in 62 games. Brown has one multi-goal performance at CSB as she tallied two goals as a junior against UW- Superior on November 22, 2022.
  
Junior goalie Kate Moffat is ranked fifth in the MIAC in save percentage and has recorded 228 saves (.916 PCT). She has played in 28 career games with 398 total saves with an overall record of 8-5 2. 
 
Macy leads CSB Hockey 
Head coach Lindsay Macy  has started her second year as head coach at Saint Benedict. In her first year, Macy directed the Bennies to a program-best 11 conference wins and tied the program-mark for total wins with 14. CSB, who 14-12 overall and 11-7 record for third in the MIAC in 2022-23, directed the Bennies into the conference semifinals. Two players were named All-MIAC (Jenna Timm, Aurora Opsahl). At CSB she has a career record of 17-16-2 and 14-8-2 in the MIAC.
