BLAINE, Minn. – For the second straight game, the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (3-3-2, 3-0-2 MIAC) played to a tie with a 0-0 result against Bethel on Friday (Dec. 1) on the road in MIAC play. But unlike the previous game, the Bennies earned two conference points by winning the shootout, 2-1.
After neither team were able to score a goal in regulation and five minutes of overtime, the Bennies had two scores in the overtime shootout as
Aurora Opsahl and
Chloe Lewis converted for the 2-1 shootout win.
"I was proud of the way our team found a way to grind out a shoot out win," said CSB head coach
Lindsay Macy. "Our commitment to physical fitness has really paid off lately," she said.
As a result, Saint Benedict, which is 3-3-2 overall, sit 3-0-2 and in second place in the MIAC with 11 conference points. In the 48
th meeting with Bethel, CSB extended its unbeaten string to five (four wins and a tie) against the Royals. Last December 3, 2022, the Bennies defeated the Royals, 3-2, in an overtime thriller at Ritsche Arena in St. Cloud, Minn. And, then, he teams against played into overtime and a shootout tonight.
After the 0-0 tie (shootout win), the Bennies will host Bethel in the second half of the home-and-home series at 5 p.m., on Saturday (Dec. 2) at the Ritsche Arena in St. Cloud. Then next weekend, Saint Benedict will host Dubuque (Iowa) (2-3-0, 2-2 NCHA) on Friday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m., and on Saturday Dec 9 at 5 p.m. Both games will be played at Ritsche Arena in St. Cloud, Minn.
Game Summary
Neither team was able to put up goals in the first three periods and overtime on the ice. CSB was outshot, 28-to-25 but won face-offs, 32-to-25.
Jenna Timm led CSB with five shots while
Corrine Brown and
Aurora Opsahl had three. In goal, junior goalie
Kate Moffat recorded her first shutout of the season- and second in her career as she recorded 28 saves.
