CSB Hockey set to face Bethel in home & home MIAC series Dec. 1-2

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -  With three wins and a draw in the past four games, the College of Saint Benedict (3-3-1, 3-0-1 MIAC) will face Bethel (3-3, 2-2 MIAC) in a home and home MIAC series on Dec. 1-2. CSB will travel to Blaine for a 7 p.m. game on Friday, Dec. 1. Then, the Bennies will host the Royals at 5 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Ritsche Arena.
 
The Bennies hold a 3-3-1 overall record and 3-0-1 record in the MIAC and sit in third place with nine MIAC points and just behind (RV) Saint Mary's (7-2, 3-1), 10 points) and No. 1 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus (5-0-0, 4-0-0 MIAC) with 12 points.
 
Up Next – Schedule 
After their home/away series against Bethel, the Bennies will host Dubuque (Iowa) (2-3-0, 2-2 NCHA) on Friday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m., and on Saturday Dec 9 at 5 p.m. Both games will be played at Ritsche Arena in St. Cloud, Minn.
 
About the Royals
Bethel went 0-2 last week as they fell to No. 1 Gustavus-Adolphus in two games by scores of 4-0, and 7-0. The Royals are directed by head coach Brian Carlson, who is in his 13th season. Lindsay Albers leads the team with five points, including two goals and three assists with 14 shots. Kallie Abrahamson and Beth Velasco both have two goals and an assist with 11 shots. In goal, Anna Hanson has a 3-3-0 record with 16 goals allowed (2.83 avg.) and a .925 save percentage (196 saves, 32.67 per game, 5th in the MIAC).
  
Series Notes – Bethel vs. CSB 
When CSB meets Bethel on the road on Dec. 1, the teams will play for the 48th time. CSB has an overall record of 17-26-5 against Bethel. The Bennies have defeated the Royals in the last four meetings. In their last match up on December 3, 2022, the Bennies defeated the Royals, 3-2, in an overtime thriller at Ritsche Arena in St. Cloud, Minn. 
  
Inside look at Saint Benedict 
CSB, which tied a school record with 14 regular season and 11 MIAC wins a year ago, is coming off of a 5-2 victory and 1-1 decision against St. Scholastica last weekend. In the 5-2 game one victory against the Saints at the Ritsche Arena, Emma Rooks tallied two goals (fourth over three straight games) and now has 14 career goals. Rooks has two career multi-goal performances, including a hat trick a season ago against the same St. Scholastica team on November 19, 2022. The Bennies, which had a 25-to-24 shots edge, also had goals from junior forward Aurora Opsahl, who tallied her third of the season and 20th of her career. CSB also had a goal from sophomore forward Presley Kraemer, who had her second this year and seventh in her two years at CSB. Junior forward Ava Stinnett added her fourth goal of the season, which ties her with Rooks for the team lead. Stinnett now has 16 career goals. In the 1-1 draw (lost 1-0 in shootout), the Bennies had a goal from Brooklyn Johnson,  In the shootout, CSS won, 1-0, and will earn two conference points while CSB receives one point for a shootout loss. Johnson's goal, off assists from Jamie Benzie and Avery LeMieur (first of her career), was her second of the year.
 
CSB opened the season with a pair of road losses to No. 10 UW-Eau Claire (2-0) by scores of 4-3, and 7-1. CSB also fell to the No. 3 ranked UW-River Falls, 5-0, on Nov. 2, in a game close until the Falcons broke open a 1-0 game with four third period goals.
  
In 2023, the Bennies have totaled 20 goals and allowed 25. The Bennies have been outshot, 243-to-182. In goal, CSB has 218 saves to 162 for their opponents. In power plays, CSB has gone 3-of-24 while opponents are 6-of-29. CSB has won 209 face offs and lost 256 (0.816 percentage).
  
Returning All-MIAC performer Aurora Opsahl  has had three goals this season including one in the most recent series against St. Scholastica . Opsahl, who has played in 51 career games, scored her 20th career goal last weekend. She also tallied her first goal of the season in the opener against UW-EC. In her career, she has four-game winning goals and 20 assists. Last year, she played in 26 games, with a career-high of two goals against UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 29, 2022. Opsahl tallied a goal in seven straight games as a sophomore. The seven-goal streak began on January 31, 2022, against UW-Superior.
  
In the third period of the 5-2 win against St. Scholastica, junior Ava Stinnett recorded her fourth goal of the season and the 16th of her career. Stinnett, who also had an assist in the second game of the season against UW-EC, ranks eighth in the MIAC with 28 shots and 12th in goals with four.  Stinnett, who has played in 56 career games, has 171 shots on net and 19 assists in her career with the Bennies. A year ago, she was third in the MIAC for face-off wins against total faceoffs (261-of-558). She also tied for fifth in the MIAC with four game-winning goals of the seven goals she scored last year. 
  
In that opener, junior Sydney Hunst  had a pair of assists while junior Sami Boerboom  also recorded an assist.  Hunst has played in 34 games with four career assists and one goal. Boerboom has played in 53 games with eight goals, six assists and 61 shots. 
  
Senior forward Corrine Brown has scored two goals in 2023, including one against nationally-ranked UW-Eau Claire on the road. She also had the game-winning overtime goal in the 5-4 decision over Concordia on Nov. 11. She now has 13 career goals, 19 assists, 161 shots and has played in 60 games. Brown has one multi goal performance at CSB as she tallied two goals as a junior against UW- Superior on November 22, 2022.
  
Junior goalie Kate Moffat  is ranked fifth in the MIAC in save percentage and has recorded 175 saves (.907 PCT). She has played in 26 career games with 345 total saves with an overall record of 8-4-1. 
 
Macy leads CSB Hockey 
Head coach Lindsay Macy  has started her second year as head coach at Saint Benedict. In her first year, Macy directed the Bennies to a program-best 11 conference wins and tied the program-mark for total wins with 14. CSB, who 14-12 overall and 11-7 record for third in the MIAC in 2022-23, directed the Bennies into the conference semifinals. Two players were named All-MIAC (Jenna Timm, Aurora Opsahl).   At CSB she has a career record of 17-15-1 and 14-7-1 in the MIAC.
