CSB Hockey ties St. Scholastica, 1-1, but loses shootout, 1-0

Bennies sit in second place in MIAC at 3-0-1

DULUTH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team (3-3-1, 3-0-1 MIAC), which had a goal from Brooklyn Johnson, tied the College of Saint Scholastica (0-5-1, 0-2-1 MIAC) on Saturday (Nov. 18). In the shootout, CSS won, 1-0, and will earn two conference points while CSB receives one point for a shootout loss.
 
The Bennies sit 3-0-1 in MIAC play (3-3-1 overall) and sit in second in the conference with nine points. CSB will return to the ice with an away/home series with Bethel on Dec. 1-2. The Bennies host the Royals on Dec. 2 at 5 p.m., after going to Bethel on Dec. 1 for a 7 p.m., contest.
 
CSB opened the scoring as first-year forward Brooklyn Johnson recorded a goal at 6:23 to break a scoreless game and give the Bennies a 1-0 lead. Johnson's goal, off assists from Jamie Benzie and Avery LeMieur (first of her career), was her second of the year.
 
The Saints drew even at 7:10 of the third period on an even strength goal from Hannah Martin. CSS's Taylor Leonard recorded an assist on the play.
 
CSB goalie Kate Moffat had another standout performance, recording 36 saves in 65 minutes on the ice. The Bennies were outshot, 37-to-34 and lost the faceoff battle, 48-to-34.  Ava Stinnett, who had 14 faceoff wins, had six shots. Aurora Opsahl led CSB with eight shots while Emma Rooks had four. Mia Lopez won 10-of-18 faceoffs for the Bennies.
