After two straight wins, Saint Benedict Hockey set to host St. Scholastica on Friday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -  After claiming a weekend sweep over Concordia- Moorhead, The College of Saint Benedict (2-3, 2-0 MIAC) will face St. Scholastica (0-4, 0-2 MIAC) in a home-away series on Nov. 17-18. The Bennies host the Saints at 7 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 17 at Ritsche Arena. Then, they travel to Duluth for a 2 p.m., game on Saturday, Nov. 18.

The Bennies sit 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC and sit in a four-way tie with No. 1 Gustavus, Bethel and Augsburg.
  
About the Saints
St. Scholastica went 0-2 last week as they fell to No. 1 Gustavus-Adolphus in two games (0-6, 0-1). The Saints will be led by head coach Julianne Vasichek, who is in her second season. Allie Bussey leads the team with one goal and six shots, while Lyndi Schubert also has a goal.
  
Series Notes – St. Scholastica vs. CSB 
When CSB meets St. Scholastica on Friday, the teams will play for the fifth time. CSB has an overall record of 1-3-0 against St. Scholastica. CSB owns a 1-0 home record against the Saints. In their last meeting on November 19, 2022, the Bennies defeated the Saints, 6-2, in St. Cloud, Minn. 
  
Inside look at Saint Benedict 

CSB, which tied a school record with 14 regular season and 11 MIAC wins a year ago, is coming off consecutive wins over Concordia, 5-2, and 5-4 in overtime. In the 5-2 win, Jamie Benzie tied a career-high with two goals to lead the way. Ava Stinnett, Presley Kraemer, Emma Rooks also tallied goals in the game at Ritsche Arena. On Nov. 11, the Bennies rallied from a 4-2 deficit to force overtime and won the game with a dramatic overtime goal from senior forward Corrine Brown. In the 5-4 win,  Aurora Opsahl, Ava Stinnett, Emma Rooks and Emily Wendorf also tallied goals.
  
CSB opened the season with a pair of road losses to No. 8 UW-Eau Claire (2-0) by scores of 4-3, and 7-1. CSB also fell to the No. 4 ranked UW-River Falls, 5-0, on Nov. 2, in a game close until the Falcons broke open a 1-0 game with four third period goals.
  
In 2023, the Bennies have totaled 14 goals and allowed 22. The Bennies have been outshot, 183-to-123. In goal, CSB has 161 saves to 109 for their opponents. In power plays, CSB has gone 1-of-20 while opponents are 6-of-24. CSB has won 150 face offs and lost 174 (0.862 percentage).  
  
Returning All-MIAC performer Aurora Opsahl  has had two goals this season including one in the most recent series at Concordia . Opsahl, who has played in 49 career games, scored her 19th career goal last weekend. She also tallied her first goal of the season in the opener against UW-EC. In her career, she has three-game winning goals and 19 assists. Last year, she played in 26 games, with a career-high of two goals against UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 29, 2022. 
  
In the third period of the 4-3 loss of UW-EC, junior Ava Stinnett recorded her first goal of the season and the 13th of her career. Stinnett, who also had an assist in the second loss to UW-EC, ranks 11th in the MIAC with 17 shots.  Stinnett, who has played in 54 career games, has 160 shots on net and 19 assists in her career with the Bennies. A year ago, she was third in the MIAC for face-off wins against total faceoffs (261-of-558). She also tied for fifth in the MIAC with four game-winning goals of the seven goals she scored last year. 
  
 Also, in the 4-3 loss to UW-Eau Claire, first year standout  Brooklyn Johnson  had her first goal of her career. 
  
In that opener, junior Sydney Hunst  had a pair of assists while junior Sami Boerboom  also recorded an assist.  Hunst has played in 34 games with four career assists and one goal. Boerboom has played in 51 games with eight goals, six assists and 60 shots. 
  
Senior forward Corrine Brown has scored two goals in 2023, including one against nationally-ranked UW-Eau Claire on the road. She also had the game-winning overtime goal in the 5-4 decision over Concordia on Nov. 11. She now has 13 career goals, 19 assists, 158 shots and has played in 58 games. 
  
Junior goalie Kate Moffat  is ranked ninth in the MIAC and has recorded 118 saves (.887 PCT). She has played in 24 career games with 288 total saves with an overall record of 7-4. 

Macy leads CSB Hockey 
Head coach Lindsay Macy  has started her second year as head coach at Saint Benedict. In her first year, Macy directed the Bennies to a program-best 11 conference wins and tied the program-mark for total wins with 14. CSB, who 14-12 overall and 11-7 record for third in the MIAC in 2022-23, directed the Bennies into the conference semifinals. Two players were named All-MIAC (Jenna Timm, Aurora Opsahl).   At CSB she has a career record of 16-15 and 13-7 in the MIAC.
 
Up Next – Schedule 
After their home/away games against St. Scholastica, the Bennies will have a home/away with Bethel. The Bennies will travel to Arden Hills, Minn. to face Bethel (3-1, 2-0 MIAC) on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m., before they return home., for a game with the Royals on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m.
