04/11/2022

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict club volleyball team enjoyed home court advantage this past weekend as it hosted the Northern Club Collegiate Tournament.

CSB finished second at the two-day tournament which featured men's and women's teams from around the Midwest. After finishing 2-2 in pool play Saturday, Saint Benedict came back in bracket play and fought through the elimination bracket to make the championship match before falling to St. Thomas.

On Saturday in Claire Lynch, Saint Benedict beat both St. Cloud State and Minnesota-Duluth 2-0 but lost 2-1 to Bemidji State and 2-0 to the Tommies.

Sunday, the Bennies started bracket play with a tough 2-1 loss to Duluth. From there, however, CSB rattled off three must-win games to earn a spot in the championship. The team beat St. Cloud State and Bemidji 2-0, then avenged its morning loss with a 2-0 win over Duluth. CSB fell 2-0 once again to UST in the championship match, falling 25-17 in both sets.

Libero Greta Lieser had a big weekend in the middle back with impressive plays to keep the ball alive, and first years Rita Ganley and Abby Emacher were named to the all-conference team. The weekend tournament marked the final collegiate club action for the team's lone senior, Elena Lozano.
