MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – A handful of athletes from the College of Saint Benedict track and field team headed to Minneapolis Saturday for the Gopher Classic at the U of M, and the Bennies more than held their own against solid competition.
The Bennies' five athletes recorded three top-four finishes and one top-10 time in program history Saturday morning.
Junior pole vaulter
Caitlin Salfer moved into ninth in program history in the pole vault and finished third in the event with a mark of 3.17 meters. Her previous personal best was 3.13 meters.
Sophomore sprinter
Kate Gallagher almost matched her personal best in the 60-meter dash as she took third in in eight seconds flat. She ran 8.04 seconds in the prelims and took four one-hundredths of a second off that time in the finals.
First year
Emerson Knapp also recorded a top-four finish and just missed moving into program history as she finished fourth in the 400 in 61.68 seconds.
Pole vaulters
Olivia Hoff and
Molly Vaughan also traveled to Minneapolis and took ninth and 10
th, respectively. Hoff recorded a mark of 3.02 meters and Vaughan finished with a mark of 2.87 meters.
