ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team begins its 2021-22 MIAC Tournament run in the all-comers tournament this Saturday, Feb. 19. The Bennies secured a #5 seed in order to host 12
th-seeded St. Scholastica. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall.
Tickets for the MIAC Tournament are $10 for adults and $2 for students, and only MIAC passes will be accepted. The first 50 CSB/SJU students get in free with an ID. Per MIAC policy, fans must be masked at all times in Claire Lynch Hall. Fans are asked to sit in family pods, and if fans are feeling unwell, they are asked to stay home. About the Saints
The Saints finished the regular season 3-21 overall and 3-19 in conference play in their first season in the MIAC. Sophomore Miranda Broberg led the Saints in scoring with 14.6 points per game on average. Sophomore Liz Frase led the team in rebounds per game with an average of 6.2. Their last game of the regular season was on the road against St. Olaf, which secured the No. 9 seed for the all-comers tournament, and the Saints lost 67-59.
Last Meeting
The Bennies swept the Saints in their series against them this season. Their first game in November on the road was a 61-49 victory, with Tori Szathmary scoring 16 points and pulling 12 rebounds in the win. The second game was a close home win of 64-60, with senior Madison Doran scoring 20 points in the win.
The Storyline
The Bennies finished their regular season with an overall record of 14-10 and a conference record of 11-10 to secure the No. 5 5 seed in the MIAC playoff all-comers tournament. If the Bennies win against St. Scholastica on Saturday afternoon, they will move on to play #4 seeded Hamline on Tuesday, Feb. 22 in the MIAC quarterfinals.
Who to Watch
Senior Madison Doran and first year Sophia Jonas scored double digit points in the team's loss against Gustavus on Wednesday night. Nancy Soro pulled nine rebounds in the loss. Sophomore Carla Meyer continues to lead CSB in scoring average with 14.7 points per game for a spot in fourth in the MIAC standings. Tori Szathmary is also fourth in the MIAC with 7.4 rebounds per game.
