CSB hockey to celebrate senior day Friday against Oles

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team returns to MIAC play after a tough nonconference match up on Tuesday against fourth-ranked UW-River Falls. The Bennies will have a home and home series against St. Olaf, with their first game on Friday at home with a scheduled puck drop for 7 p.m. and then travel to Northfield on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match up.  

Per MIAC and CSB policy, fans must be masked at all times. All spectators are encouraged to sit in pods with the people they came to the game with, and to distance themselves from other pods. Fans exhibiting symptoms of COVID or who are generally feeling unwell are asked to please stay home. Live stats and video are available here

Saturday at St. Olaf, attendance is limited to two fans per student-athlete. Those fans must provide proof of vaccination at the door, and must be on a pass list provided to St. Olaf staff by the CSB coaching staff prior to the game. The link to the St. Olaf fan policy is here.

Friday's game in St. Cloud will also serve as senior night for the Bennies, and the team will celebrate Zoe Culshaw-Klein, Maggie Gilchrist, Julia Pias and Annika Brodt. The foursome has been with the program for four years, and has helped build the team into a MIAC contender.

About the Oles 

The Oles are 7-14 overall, 1-13 in MIAC play this season. In their last series they played against Hamline in a home and home series which they fell 4-0 in game one at home and then lost on the road 5-1 in St. Paul. Junior Annika Patterson leads the team in goals, assists and points (8 G, 6 A, 14 Pts).  

Last Meeting 

The last time the Bennies and the Oles met was two years ago, Feb. 1, 2020 at the MAC. The Bennies would find the back of the net in each period and shutout the Oles with a 4-0 victory. Zoe Culshaw-Klein had two assists and Annika Brodt had one assist in the win. Goaltender Ally Frantzick stopped all 18 shots to earn the shutout.  

The Storyline 

The Bennies (9-8-1 overall, 5-4-1 MIAC) have just four games left in the regular season before the all-comers playoff tournament begins. The Bennies are looking to hold onto a top six placement in order to get a first-round bye in the tournament. 

Who to Watch 

First year Sami Boerboom had her first multi-goal game against UW-River Falls on Tuesday evening and now leads the team in goals with six. First year Jenna Timm added another assist against UWRF to bring her total to a team-high nine, she also leads the team in points with 14 total. Goalie Ally Frantzick stopped 45 of 51 shots against UWRF, she now has a 3.52 goals-against average, with 210 saves and a .882 save percentage.
