Hockey's Corrine Brown named CSB Athlete of the Week

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- Junior forward Corrine Brown, who was helped lead the Hockey Team to its fifth win in six games with a career-best performance in a home win on Nov. 222, has been named the College of Saint Benedict Athlete of the Week.

Brown, who was named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time on Monday (Nov. 28),  scored two goals and added an assist to lead the St. Ben's Hockey Team (5-4) to a nonconference 6-0 win over Wisconsin-Superior on Nov. 22,

A junior nursing major from Saint Paul, Minn., Brown and Kate Moffat, who was the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week, represent the first CSB Hockey tandem to sweep the MIAC Player of the Week honors. CSB has now had 16 MIAC Athletes of the Week in school history.

With Brown's contributions, the Bennies scored six goals for the second straight game.  It is the first time CSB has tallied six or more goals in consecutive matches since 7-4 and 7-1 wins over Northland on Oct. 28-29.

In recording her third and fourth goals of the season, Brown pushed her career goal total to eight. She also helped initiate the first goal of the night when she had her fourth assist on an even strength goal by Ava Stinnett, who tallied her second goal of the year, just 48 seconds into the game. Brown has scored in consecutive games when CSB has outscored opponents, 12-1.

Brown scored her first goal of the night on a power play at 2:32 of the second period for a 2-0 lead (Aurora Opsahl, Ava Stinnett, assisted). At 10:46 of the third period, she gave CSB a 6-0 lead (Aurora Opsahl, assist) on an even-strength goal.

For Brown, the performance against Wisconsin-Superior included career highs in points with three and goals with two while also scoring a power play goal for the first time. This season, she has four goals and four assists for eight points, which ranks second on the team. Brown has also recorded 49 shots for second on CSB. In her career, she now has eight goals, 12 assists and 20 points as well as 95 shots.

She and her teammates will host Bethel in MIAC hockey on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m., at Ritsche Arena.
