With six wins in seven matches, CSB Soccer set to host Bethel U Wednesday afternoon

ST. JOSEPH, MINN. -- With six wins in seven matches, the College of Saint Benedict Soccer Team (8-4, 4-2, 3rd, MIAC) will host Bethel University (MN) in a mid-week MIAC match at 4 p.m. at the CSB soccer field. After the match Wednesday, Head Coach Steve Kimble and his squad will face Hamline University at 1 p.m. on Oct. 15 in St. Paul, Minn., and Wartburg College at 3 p.m. on Oct. 16 in Waverly, Iowa.

Opponent notes 
Bethel has opened with a 3-5-3 (1-3-2 in the MIAC) record but have dropped two straight including 1-0 setbacks to Carleton College and St. Catherines. Over the last five matches, Bethel stands 1-2-2. Bethel averages 1.182 goals per match and allows just 1.64 They have scored 18 goals, including five by Sonia Meyer, and registered 61 saves.

The last time the Bennies and the Royals met was Oct 12, 2021, with CSB taking a 3-2 decision. CSB trailed 2-1 at halftime before Roxy Veldman (48th minute) scored her second goal early in the half and the game-winning shot was by Alli Voss (84th minute). In the history of series, CSB has a 25-1-3 advantage and has three straight wins. CSB is 11-1-2 at home vs. the Royals. CSB is 7-1-2 in the last 10 meetings.

Alli Voss leads the MIAC with eight goals and has scored 18 points. Voss has four game-winning goals this season, including the clincher with 20 seconds to play in the 1-0 win over Concordia on Oct. 5.  With those four kicks, she ranks tied for ninth in NCAA DII. Caralyn Conners has 14 points and five goals. In goal, Annie Waters is 5-2 with 27 saves while Paige Kahlmeyer is 3-1 with 30 saves. In the DII national stats, Kahlmeyer, who is ninth in the MIAC with 2.50 saves game, sits 29th in save percentage at .882 and ranks 39th in goals against average but leads the MIAC. She has 30 saves in 12 matches and allowed just four goals for the .882 mark.

The Bennies, which has opened 2022 with eight wins in 12 matches, have finished in the top four in eight of Kimble's 13 seasons. Kimble, who also serves as Assistant Athletic Director at CSB, is 136-75-25 overall at Saint Benedict with an 85-40-11 mark in conference play. CSB has recorded winning seasons in 11 of his 13 years with the program and has finished the year with a winning record 31 of the past 33 years. In 13 seasons, Kimble has coached three All-Americans, two MIAC Players of the Year, one MIAC Rookie of the Year, 18 All-Region athletes, 29 All-MIAC athletes and 19 All-MIAC Honorable Mention selections.
