CSB basketball starts 2022 at home Monday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a three-week break, the College of Saint Benedict basketball team hits the court for the first time in 2022 Monday, Jan. 3, when it hosts Carleton. Monday's game was originally scheduled to be the last of the semester for the Bennies back in December, but was postponed due to poor weather conditions. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Claire Lynch.
 
Per Saint Benedict campus policy and MIAC policy, fans must be masked in the gym at all times. Live stats and video are available here. 
 
About the Knights 
The Knights are 3-5 overall, 2-3 in conference play so far this season. Their last match-up before the holidays was a non-conference game against UW-Lacrosse which they lost 71-55. Jill Yanai (13.0 points per game average) and Aiana Whitfield (12.5 points per game average) lead the Knights in scoring.  
 
Last Meeting 
The last time the Bennies and the Knights met on the court was Jan. 25, 2020, in Northfield where a big first quarter for the Knights led them to a 66-49 victory over the Bennies. Madison Doran scored 10 points and had four rebounds and Tori Szathmary had four rebounds in the loss. Saint Benedict heads into Wednesday's game looking to snap a two-game losing streak to the Knights.
 
The Storyline 
Saint Benedict is looking to break its two-loss streak as it kicks off the new year. CSB is 6-2 overall, 3-2 in conference play heading into the first game of 2022. The Bennies will be back on January 5 at home taking on Bethel to start off the new year, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall. 
 
Who to Watch 
Doran, a senior, has led the Bennies in scoring in two of the last three games played, scoring 21 points against Concordia and 19 points against Macalester. She also leads the team in steals, averaging 1.9 steals per game. Carla Meyer continues to lead the team in points per game (12.9) and Szathmary averages a team-best 7.8 rebounds per game.
