ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team takes the field once more in the Spring 2021 season. After wrapping up its home season Tuesday against St. Thomas, CSB hits the road for just the second time this season Sunday, May 2, when it heads to St. Kate's.
Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday in St. Paul. Live stats and video will be available
here.
About the Wildcats
St. Kate's unloaded on Saint Mary's Thursday afternoon, scoring 10 goals and allowing just three shots on net to improve to 3-0 on the season. Amanda Elton, Emily Stephens, Lauren Witte and Sofia Campbell all have three goals to their name this season after Thursday's scoring outburst, and Kate Praetz is 3-0 in net with a 0.37 goals-against average and eight saves.
Last Meeting
St. Kate's has had the Bennies' number each of the last three seasons. Saint Benedict is 1-3-1 against the Wildcats dating back to 2017, including a 5-1 loss in 2019 in St. Joseph. The Bennies scored three minutes into the game in the 2019 meeting, but St. Kate's scored five times in 20 minutes in the second half to pull away for the win.
The Storyline
This marks the final game in a CSB uniform for the team's five seniors. After dropping a 4-0 game to St. Thomas on Tuesday, the Bennies look to bounce back and send the seniors off on a high note, and build some momentum for the fall season. CSB will have a young roster with 10 first years on the current roster, but several got key playing time this spring and will bring that experience with them into the fall.
Who to Watch
Six different players have scored for the Bennies this season, including junior
Roxy Veldman, who had a pair of goals in the team's first game of the spring. Veldman also leads CSB with six shots on net, and
Clara Noack and
Clair Lehmann each have four. Sophomore goalie
Paige Kahlmeyer has 32 saves to her name, and has matched her career-high of seven saves three times this season, including Tuesday against the Tommies.
