CSB soccer returns home to host Gustavus

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After an exciting game and a win over Bethel to start the season, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team came up short on the road at Augsburg Wednesday.
 
The Bennies look to get back on track in front of their home crowd Sunday, April 18, when it hosts Gustavus at 1 p.m. at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.
 
Per CSB policy, 150 fans are allowed in the grandstands, masked and socially distant. Live stats and video are also available here.
 
ABOUT THE GUSTIES
After winning its first two games - including a 1-0 shutout of Augsburg - the Gusties fell 5-0 to St. Thomas Wednesday in St. Paul. Jordan Whalen leads the team with two goals and Paige Cocchiarella has two assists, and a trio of keepers ahve seen time in the net so far this season for Gustavus.
 
LAST MEETING
CSB beat Gustavus 2-0 last season in St. Joseph. Syd Sherek scored the eventual game-winner in the 65th minute, and Megan Thompson tacked on a late goal in the final 11 minutes of the game. The Bennies outshot Gustavus 18-11, including 12-5 in shots on goal.
 
THE STORYLINE
After scoring three goals against the Royals, CSB was limited to just two shots on net Wednesday afternoon. The Bennies look to get their offense going again and put more shots on net against Gustavus. The team's defense did a nice job and limited the Auggies to six shots on net Wednesday.
 
WHO TO WATCH:
Junior Roxy Veldman had a big first game of the season as she scored two goals to help the Bennies to a win over Bethel. That marked the third multi-goal game of her career. First year Lana Krautkremer scored the first goal of her collegiate career, and it also turned out to be the game-winner against BU. Paige Kahlmeyer has been solid in net so far this season and has 11 saves to her name, good for second in the MIAC.
