MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – After scoring three goals in its first game of the season Sunday afternoon, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team's offense was held silent Wednesday afternoon.
The Bennie defense allowed just six shots on net, but the team's offense put just two shots on net in a 1-0 loss to Augsburg Wednesday in Minneapolis. CSB is now 1-1 in the shortened spring season.
Augsburg (1-2) had an early shot on net, but sophomore goalie
Paige Kahlmeyer came up with the save.
Roxy Veldman and
Clair Lehmann both had first-half shots that were wide or blocked, but didn't have a shot on net. The Auggies had two more shots on net midway through the first half, but Kahlmeyer stopped both to keep the score tied 0-0 at halftime.
Lehmann had a shot on net to start the second half, and she and
Roxy Veldman both had shots that went wide. The Auggies scored what ended up being the lone goal of the game at the 61:57 mark when Rylan Lee scored unassisted.
Ella Young had a shot that went wide, and
Lana Krautkremer had a shot on net and one more that went wide.
Cecelia Miller had a shot that was blocked in the final three minutes of play as the Auggies held on for the one-goal win.
Augsburg held a 13-12 edge in total shots, including a 6-2 margin in shots on goal. Kahlmeyer finished the game with five saves.
CSB is back in action and returns home Sunday, April 18, when it hosts Gustavus at 1 p.m. at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.
