Game Notes
ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – A trip to Augsburg wasn't on the College of Saint Benedict basketball team's original schedule or itinerary, but the team has gotten good at switching plans at a moment's notice in this turbulent 2021 season.
With both CSB and Augsburg losing opponents this week due to COVID protocols, the Bennies head to Minneapolis Wednesday, March 3, for a 7 p.m. nonconference game against the Auggies. Per MIAC policy no fans are allowed, but live stats and video are available
here.
ABOUT THE AUGGIES
With two games left on its schedule, Augsburg is still looking for its first win of the season at 0-4. Jen Masello (14.0) and Kalena Myers (11.5) both average double digits in scoring, and two other players average seven or more points per game. Masello is ninth in the league in scoring, third in rebounds per game (8.8) and fourth with 2.3 steals per game.
LAST MEETING
Augsburg - which was ranked most of the 2019-20 season - swept the season series with CSB last year. The Auggies won 67-60 on Jan. 4 in St. Joe, and then headed to Minneapolis and won 62-54 on Feb. 8.
Maddie Schmitz had seven points and five rebounds in the January game and she added eight points in the February game. The Bennies shot just 36 percent from the field in Minneapolis.
THE STORYLINE
CSB was hoping to use momentum from a big win over UST on Feb. 24 Saturday against Bethel, but came up short. The Bennies look to bounce back Wednesday against Augsburg and finish out the 2021 season strong. It's Bennie/Auggie week for the basketball team - after heading to Minneapolis Wednesday, CSB ends the season at home Saturday against the Auggies.
