MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –
Brynn Sexauer scored her second goal in as many games Saturday night to help the College of Saint Benedict hockey team to a 1-1 overtime tie against Augsburg in a MIAC game in Minneapolis.
That marks the second overtime tie of the season for the Bennies (0-5-2), who also played 65 minutes against Saint Mary's on Feb. 17.
Sexauer's goal – her team-leading fourth of the season – came less than two minutes into the game. She scored at the 1:14 mark off an assist from senior
Maria Wallace to give the Bennies a 1-0 lead that would hold for exactly one period. The Auggies tied the game at the 1:17 mark of the second period, and that's where the score would stay through three full periods and a five-minute overtime.
Junior goalie
Maggie Gilchrist had a season-best game in the net, stopping 34 shots – including eight in the five-minute overtime period and 12 in the third period to keep Augsburg (0-3-1) off the board and help the Bennies preserve the tie.
Augsburg had 35 shots on net to CSB's 16. Sexauer paced CSB with four shots on net, and
Kendall Johnson led the team's defense with five blocked shots.
CSB is scheduled to return to action Saturday, March 6, when it hosts Hamline at 1 p.m.
