CSB hockey wraps up busy week with loss to Gusties

ST. PETER, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team played its fourth game in the last eight days Sunday afternoon – its third road game in that stretch – and lost 5-0 to a tough Gustavus squad in St. Peter.

The Gusties – coming into Sunday's game off a two-week break due to COVID protocol – started the scoring early in the first period with a goal at the three-minute mark, and that ended up being all they needed. The Bennies had plenty of chances in the first period – the team put nine shots on net, including a trio of shots from Corrine Brown and Abby Nelson at the 15-minute mark – but couldn't find the back of the net.

Gustavus (2-1) added a goal in the final 10 seconds of the period, added a single goal in the second, then scored again twice more in the third period – once in the first minute of the period on the power play and again at the seven-minute mark.

Ally Frantzick reached the 40-save mark for the second time this season for CSB, which is now 0-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the MIAC. She finished with 41 saves, including 19 in the second period alone. Gustavus outshot the Bennies 46-15. Brynn Sexauer had a trio of shots on net to lead CSB.

The Bennies kick off another busy week Wednesday, Feb. 24, when they play at home for just the second time in 2021. They host Bethel at 7 p.m. at the MAC in St. Cloud before traveling to Augsburg Saturday and hosting Concordia Sunday in a makeup game.
