CSB hockey wraps up 2021 with nonconference tilt at Bethel

12/07/2021

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team added one more contest to 2021, heading on the road to take on Bethel Wednesday, Dec. 8, in a nonconference match-up after COVID protocols canceled their previous road game in November. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Super Rink in Blaine.

Per MIAC policy, fans must be masked at all times for all winter sporting events.

About the Royals
The Royals have started the season 3-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference due to a few COVID protocol forfeits per MIAC policy. Their last series was against MIAC competitor's St. Kate's last weekend whom they split the weekend with, with both games going into overtime. Grace Halvorson leads the Royals in goals with five and Megan Johnson leads the team in assists with seven.

Last Meeting
The Bennies and the Royals last met in the beginning of November, playing one game of a two-game series before COVID protocols caused a forfeit for Bethel in the Saturday game. The Friday night contest boasted a 4-1 win for the Bennies, with Emma Rooks, Ava Stinnett, Annika Brodt, and Kennedy Morris scoring for CSB. Goalie Maggie Gilchrist had 23 saves in the win.

The Storyline
The Bennies are looking to use this extra game as an opportunity to get into the win column one more time in 2021 before the winter break after the tough weekend losses against the sixth-ranked Gusties.

Who to Watch
Stinnett and Morris lead Bennie hockey in goals with three each, while Stinnett also leads the team in assists with five. Two of Morris' goals have been the game-winners. Goaltenders Maggie Gilchrist and Ally Frantzick have split time in goal this season. Gilchrist has a 2.23 goals-against average, 119 saves, a .915 save percentage, and 2-3 record. Frantzick has a 3.48 goals-against average, 86 saves, a .860 save percentage, and a 1-3 record.
