ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey gears up for a tough home and home series against sixth-ranked Gustavus to kick off the month of December. The two teams begin the weekend on the Bennies' home ice at Ritschie Arena on Friday at 7 p.m. and end in St. Peter on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Fans are welcome at the conference games on Ritschie Arena at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud. Per MIAC policy, fans must be masked at all times for all winter sporting events.
About the Gusties
The Gusties have begun the season undefeated and ranked No. 6 nationally. The Gusties are 5-0 overall, 4-0 in conference play with a most recent 6-0 win over UW-Superior and a nontraditional conference sweep of Bethel due to COVID protocols. Kristina Press leads the Gusties in goals this season with five and lending a hand in assists is Hailey Holland with a team high of seven. Goalie Katie McCoy leads the MIAC in goals-against average with a 0.20 GGA by allowing only one goal so far this season and has 57 saves.
Last Meeting
The last time the Bennies and the Gusties met was February 2021 in St. Peter where the Gusties shutout CSB 5-0. Goalie
Ally Frantzick stopped 41 shots on goals for CSB.
The Storyline
Before the break, the Bennies split the weekend on the road against Saint Mary's. They dropped a close 2-1 loss during the Friday night game against the Cardinals but were able to bounce back in a big way Saturday afternoon, winning 4-1 over SMU.
Jamie Benzie scored twice,
Brynn Sexauer and
Aurora Opsahl scored the other two goals in the win. The Bennies are 4-4 overall heading into this weekend's matchup.
Who to Watch
Jamie Benzie scored twice against Saint Mary's to tie the team high with three goals along with Ava Stinnett and Kennedy Morris. Stinnett leads the team in assists with five. Julia Pias had three assists against SMU to put her in second on the team along with
