CSB volleyball hits the road for two big MIAC matches

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team is getting ready for another MIAC doubleheader weekend, this time on the road. The Bennies head to Northfield on Friday, Oct. 22, to take on St. Olaf at 7 p.m. and then head over to St. Peter on Saturday, Oct. 23 for a matchup against Gustavus at 7 p.m. 
 
Per campus policy, masks are required at indoor athletic events on both the St. Olaf and Gustavus campuses. Live stats and video are available for both matches.
 
About the Competition 
St. Olaf is 10-11 overall and 5-2 in the MIAC with losses coming Gustavus and Bethel in conference play. The Oles head into Saturday after a 3-1 win over Augsburg. Catherine Moore leads the team with 244 kills and Brynne Gray lends a hand consistently with 471 assists. Selena Rodriguez leads the Oles defense with 355 digs and Katelyn Lannom with 52 blocks.  
 
Gustavus is 19-4 overall and 5-1 in the MIAC with their only loss coming from Hamline in conference play. The Gusties head into Saturday after competing in the Northwestern Triangular tournament, getting a win over Loras and dropping a 3-0 match to nationally ranked Northwestern. Kate Holtan leads the team with 343 kills and assisting her with 780 assists is Kasie Tweet. Hailey Embacher leads defensively with 428 digs.  
 
Last Meeting 
The last time the Bennies and the Oles met was Nov. 7, 2019, in Northfield where St. Olaf handed CSB a 3-1 loss. Gabby Heying had nine kills and Mary Wenisch had 11 digs during that meeting. The Gusties and the Bennies last met April 28, 2021, and battled to five sets but GAC would take the final set for the victory in St. Joseph. Mackenzie McDonald had a huge night defensively as she tied the school record with 38 digs.  
 
The Storyline 
The Bennies are amped up after a weekend sweep of Saint Mary's and Carleton and looking to use that energy in their next two big matches coming up. They are now 3-4 in conference play with those two wins and moved up to a three-way tie for sixth in the conference standings.  
 
Who to Watch 
Gabby Heying has remained strong offensively for the Bennies with 223 kills so far this season, helping her out are Audrey Spolidoro with 337 assists and Payton Marker with 238 assists. Mary Wenisch leads the team in digs with 282 and holding the front line defensively with blocks is Madelyn Gregory with 29 on the season.
