ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team is back on the ice after a short turnaround thanks to last weekend's snowstorm. The Bennies traveled to St. Paul Tuesday for an afternoon game against Hamline to wrap up that season series, now returns home Friday, Jan. 24, to take on another of the top teams in the MIAC.
CSB hosts Augsburg at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the MAC in St. Cloud, then travels to Minneapolis for a 4 p.m. game Saturday in the Augsburg campus.
About the Auggies
Augsburg has had a lot of close games this season, putting them at 10-4 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC. Augsburg saw its three-game win streak come to an end Wednesday evening at the hands of No. 3 Eau Claire. All of the Auggies' losses have come at the hands of teams ranked in the top 10 in Division III. Emily Ach, Katie Flynn, and McKenna Ellena all have six goals for the Auggies and Mackenzie Molnar has been setting them up this season with nine assists. In net Abby Bolling has been solid, allowing 13 goals so far this season with 136 shots on net.
Last Meeting
These teams met last season in the beginning of February, the game ended in a 1-1 tie with CSB scoring in the first period and Augsburg scoring in the second. Although CSB was outshot 4-121,
Kailee Medved had a big game in net and earned MIAC Athlete of the Week honors. Overall the teams are 8-17-10 against each other, and CSB averages 2.2 goals with a total of 77 scored against the Auggies.
Storyline
While Saint Bens is coming off a tough loss to Hamline, it is hoping to find some momentum this weekend going into these pairs of games. With only 8 games left in regular season they are looking to put up some wins in the conference going into to playoffs.
Who to Watch
In net for the Bennies
Maggie Gilchrist has been having a solid season, allowing 16 goals so far with 180 shots in total.
Ally Frantzick has also been in net for the Bennies allowing 14 goals from 135 shots on net. Scoring for CSB is across the board with many of the players each with at least one goal.
Rylan Bistodeau is leading the Bennies overall with seven goals and
Annika Brodt is right behind her with six goals and a team-high 13 points.
