ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a weekend in Texas and a mid-week match in Wisconsin, the CSB volleyball team is at home for the first time this season as it hosts its CSB Volleyball Tournament. The three tournament matches are also the team's only home matches in September - the next time CSB is in Claire Lynch is Oct. 5.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
Moris played a tough schedule with matches against three ranked teams in Texas to start 2019 and is 1-3 heading into this weekend. After ending the tournament with a sweep of Neumann, Morgan Miller leads the team with 35 kills and 12 blocks, Layne Herrmann has 90 assists and Alyssa Ukestad has a team-high 45 digs.
ABOUT THE COBBERS
After a five-set win against Buena Vista to start the season, Concordia is 0-3 in its next three matches. The Cobbers' latest loss came Tuesday at Mayville State. Anna Brakke leads the team with 35 kills and Kendra Wiggs is hitting a team-high .286. Jill Klaphake has 71 assists, and Gabby DeBoer leads the team with 92 digs.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
Northwestern hosted a tournament to start 2019, and went 2-1 with its only loss coming to Bethel. Jenay Fuglestad has a team-high 40 kills to her name, Sydney Schwitters has 83 assists and Marylyn Schroyer has 62 digs.
WHO TO WATCH:
CSB has wins over two ranked teams thanks to some big-time performances in the past week.
Hunter Weiss and
Katie Koch swept the MIAC Athlete of the Week awards to start the season, and both had big games Wednesday in an upset of No. 4 Eau Claire. Hunter added another 15 kills to her season total, and Koch had 35 assists. Hunter hit .652 against UWEC and
Madison Weiss hit an impressive .542.
