ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a tough weekend in Iowa, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team is hoping to turn things around with a pair of games this weekend. CSB will be home on Friday, Sept. 13, against Loras College at 3 p.m., then on Saturday the team travels to Eau Claire, Wis., to take on the Blugolds at 3 p.m.
About the Duhawks
Loras is 5-0 on the season and ranked No. 17 in Division III. Jenny Wick leads the team with three goals, three assists, and 21 shots, and Payton McDonnell is right behind Wick with three goals, one assist, and 14 shots. The Duhawks are coming off an American Rivers Conference Championship win and an NCAA Tournament Appearance in 2018.
About the Blugolds
Eau Claire is 2-1 this season. After losing to Augsburg 2-0 in their first game, the Blugolds came back to beat St. Catherine 1-0 and St. Norbert 3-0, putting them on a two-game win streak. Annie Sveiven has been playing well in net, resulting in two shutouts for the Blugolds.
The Storyline
This last weekend CSB faced some tough competition in Iowa, losing to Wartburg 4-1 and tying Luther 1-1 in double OT. They hope to turn things around in the first game against Loras and keep the momentum going to beat Eau Claire, who has been a tough competitor in the past. Getting these wins will help CSB to gain momentum into their MIAC play starting next week.
Who to Watch
Megan Thompson continues to lead the team with five goals, two assists, and 12 points, and
Rosie McGinty - who scored the OT goal to tie the game against Luther - also has one assist and three points.
Kendall Koenen has 17 saves and a .708 save percentage going into this weekend.
