Volleyball Abroad: Saying goodbye to Scotland

The CSB volleyball team is in Scotland May 14-22. The team will play three games and spend time sightseeing in Glasgow, Edinburgh and around Scotland. Each day, a different athlete or athletes will write about the day's journey's. The bloggers for May 21 are Madison Weiss '21 and Bridget McDonald '21.

Although we wish we could stay forever, today was our last full day of our trip in Scotland. We started the day by walking around different parts of Glasgow. Some of us took the Subway to the west end and visited popular sites such as the museum, university, and University Cafe (best gelato and vinegar peas in town). Unfortunately, at the University's engineering building, we did not find any single Scottish men that were willing to come back to the states with us. Others shopped around the new town at the beautiful and modern Prince's mall and enjoyed some fancy crepes.

After a full morning of shopping, we had our pregame meal at Slugs and Lettuce (which thankfully did not actually serve slugs and lettuce). There, we ate sausage, potatoes, and peas with a rhubarb apple custard dessert. Then it was game time! We arrived at the gym and played the Glasgow International volleyball team. After the match, we found out the team was from all over Europe and their ages ranged from 21-30! They sent us back with a wide array of Scottish desserts. Most of them did not know where Minnesota was, so we (Abby Jemmings) sent them back with the knowledge that Minnesota is indeed under Canada.

After the match we headed to the Italian street market for a late dinner where we enjoyed pasta, piadas, and paninis. We ended our last night in Glasgow by hanging out in some of our favorite places and meeting some new and interesting people. We are very sad that our week of kilts, castles, tea cakes, Irn Bru, a wee bit of haggis had to come to an end. Not to mention the amazing people and awesome memories we have made so many miles away from St. Joe.

Cheers, Scotland!
