HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team started its spring break trip with an 8-1 win over Clarion in Hilton Head, S.C. The match was the first of three for the team this week.
"It was a great start to the trip for us," head coach
Michael Engdahl said. "It was our first time playing outdoors since the fall season, and we handled the conditions well. Everyone is competing at a high level, and we are looking forward to the next challenge."
CSB got off to a 2-1 start after doubles, and went on to sweep singles play to seal the win.
Erin Kolbow and
Tessa Rahrick got things started with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, and
Mackenzie Schurhamer and
Karsen Aune kept things going with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Kayla McIver and
Lily Fredericks kept the match close before falling 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
Rahrick won a tight match at No. 1 singles, winning 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 to help keep her team on the winning track. McIver won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Fredericks picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.
Mackenzie Schurhamer won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles,
Gabbie Noack won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and
Lauren Clark picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.
CSB continues its trip Wednesday when it takes on Baldwin Wallace at 12:30 p.m. CDT in Hilton Head.
