CSB tennis sweeps Morris, 9-0

SARTELL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team started a busy weekend with a 9-0 sweep of Minnesota-Morris Friday night in Sartell. The match is the first of three scheduled this weekend for CSB, which has a pair of neutral-site, nonconference matches on the schedule for Sunday.

"(Friday) we really excelled in some areas we have been working on," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We are getting much better as a team playing a complete match. That is going to be huge in every conference match this year. We have a tough schedule moving forward, and I know we are looking forward to the challenge."

All three doubles tandems won their matches 8-0 to give CSB a three-point lead heading into singles play. Kayla McIver and Lily Fredericks teamed up at No. 1 doubles, Tessa Rahrick and Erin Kolbow won at No. 2 doubles and Mackenzie Schurhamer and Karsen Aune shut out their opponents at No. 3 doubles.

At No. 1 singles, Rahrick won 6-1, 6-1, and McIver picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Fredericks also won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Kolbow won by the same score at No. 4 singles. Mackenzie Schurhamer won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and first year Abby Kaluza picked up her first collegiate varsity win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.

Saint Benedict – which is now 3-0 – is scheduled to play both Wartburg and UW-La Crosse Sunday afternoon in Owatonna. Stay tuned to gobennies.com, or follow CSB athletics on Twitter (@csb_athletics) for schedule updates and changes due to weather.
