ST. JOSEPH, Minn – Last weekend, the College of Saint Benedict basketball team took home the team championship at its annual Quinlivan & Hughes tip-off tournament after beating Morris, and Buena Vista. CSB is hoping to keep that momentum going Thursday, Nov. 21, when its hosts UW-Superior, at 7 p.m.
About the Yellowjackets
UW-Superior is 2-2 overall this season. The team got off to a slow start, losing their first two games to UW-Stout and No. 23 Augsburg. This past weekend the Yellowjackets played in a New York tournament and won both games. The Yellowjackets have one more game against No. 9 St. Thomas on Nov. 20 before playing CSB. Eva Reinersten has 60 points so far this season and is averaging 15 points per game. Emily Carpenter is right behind her with 40 points, averaging 10 per game.
Last Meeting
Last year when these two teams met up in Superior, the Bennies lost 77-52.
Megan Thompson had 12 points and
Haylee Fingalsen finished with 10 points to led the team, but it just wasn't enough. Overall against Superior, CSB is 4-1.
Storyline
The College of Saint Benedict basketball team is off to a promising start this year with a 3-0 overall record after winning its home tournament and beating UW-River Falls in the first game of the season. This game is the last nonconference game before CSB begins to take on MIAC opponents. CSB hosts Saint Mary's on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m.
Who to Watch
CSB has had a lot of new leaders this year with
Alex Johnson averaging 14.7 points per game and 44 points total.
Megan Thompson is right behind her with 27 points this season and is averaging 13.5 per game. CSB has a lot of solid players behind her with five other athletes averaging seven or more points per game.
