ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Senior
Mollie Wise tallied her second goal of the season Friday night – the lone goal of the game for the College of Saint Benedict hockey team in a 2-1 loss to Bethel.
Friday's game marked the first MIAC contest of the season for Saint Benedict, which is now 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Royals are now 2-2 overall.
CSB out-shot the Royals 13-6 in the first period, but it was still Bethel that got on the board first with just over five minutes left in the first period at the 15:04 mark. The Royals tallied the eventual game-winner three minutes into the second period at the 3:05 mark.
Saint Benedict's defense held the Royals after that, and continued to out-shoot Bethel, but couldn't find the back of the net until the 8:34 mark of the third period when Wise tallied her unassisted goal. Saint Benedict had a power play opportunity just before Wise scored, but it couldn't capitalize, and head coach
Nick Thibault pulled goalie
Maggie Gilchrist for the final 1:15 of the game, but even with the extra skater, CSB was unable to score.
CSB finished with 32 total shots to the Royals' 24. CSB had 12 shots in the third period to Bethel's seven. Five players – including Wise – finished with three shots on nets each to lead the team. Gilchrist finished with 22 saves, including 10 in the second period.
The two teams play again Saturday, Nov. 15, when Saint Benedict heads down to the Twin Cities for a 2 p.m. game against the Royals.
