ST. JOSEPH, Minn. –
Haley LaValle and
Emily Marso have been a part of some big moments in four seasons with the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team.
They've taken trips to San Antonio, Atlanta and Washington; helped the team reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2012 and have two NCAA Tournament appearances under their belts – so far.
With the final regular-season match of 2019 Saturday, CSB Athletics caught up with the senior duo to reflect on their time with the volleyball program.
What are some goals you had coming in as a first year, and how did they pan out?
EM: My goals coming in as a first year were to really up my volleyball game, and I really think that a lot of improvement was made in that year. I also really wanted to create lasting friendships with my teammates, and I think it goes without saying that I have met and become friends with some of the best girls out there.
HL: A goal I had coming in as a first year was to leave CSB volleyball better than when I came in. I knew I wanted to make an impact on my teammates and the program in one way or another. This mindset helped not only our team's on court successes, but our off-court shenanigans, which is something that I hope can continue in years to come!
What is your favorite memory with the CSB volleyball team?
EM: That would have to be when we all went to Scotland together this past summer. We had such a fun time together, as we always do, and made some great memories!
HL: Five set thrillers and NCAA trips are hard to beat, but I think our visits to Brainerd, team pranks, and bus rides will always hold a special place.
What advice would you give to incoming volleyball players?
EM: Enjoy it all. I know it is cliche, but it really does go so fast. Enjoy the times that you get to be with some of your best friends playing such a great game and the lasting memories that you will make.
HL: Patience, dedication, and appreciation is key to having a successful collegiate career. Your time will come and go faster than you can even imagine; take advantage of every moment!
