CSB volleyball travels to Macalester Wednesday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team is off to a historic start in 2019, and the team looks to keep that hot start going Wednesday with a MIAC match at Macalester. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Leonard Center in St. Paul.

About the Scots
The Scots are looking to find consistency yet in 2019, and head into Wednesday's match 3-12 overall and winless in the MIAC at 0-3. After an 0-7 start, Macalester picked up its first win on Sept. 7, and is 2-3 in its last five matches with wins over Crown and Martin Luther. Eliza King and Zoe Lowe both have at least 120 kills to their names, and Claire Loomans leads the team with 346 assists. Katrina Schoen leads the defense with 268 digs, and Sofia Parmelee has a team-high 33 total blocks.

Last Meeting
CSB picked up a quick win over the Scots last October in St. Joseph, winning 25-13, 25-12 and 25-12. Hunter Weiss had 12 kills, Katie Koch had 34 assists and nine digs and Madison Weiss finished with five block assists. CSB had eight total blocks to the Scots' one.

The Storyline
A win over Simpson Saturday at the Storm's home tournament pushed CSB's overall record to 15-1 – its best start to the season since at least 1994 – and its current win streak to 12 matches. That is the team's longest winning streak since 2012. Saint Benedict looks extend that streak against Macalester to build up all the positive momentum it can heading into Saturday when the team returns home for the first time in a month and plays perhaps its biggest conference match of the season thus far against Augsburg.

Who to Watch
Madison Weiss put up big numbers last week to earn the second MIAC Hitter of the Week honor of her career. She had a career-best 26 kills and five solo blocks in a big five-set win at St. Kate's. She and twin sister Hunter Weiss continue to sit at or near the top of the MIAC and Division III leaderboards in kills and blocks. Junior setter Katie Koch has been steady in running the team's offense, and is second in the MIAC in both total assists and assists per set.
