NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team wrapped up its three-game road trip with a high-scoring win over St. Olaf.
After tight games with both Marian and UW-Stevens Point, CSB went off for six goals to defeat the Oles 6-1 Sunday afternoon in Northfield. Four of those goals came in the third period alone, and six goals marks the most for the team since early in the 2016-17 season.
Saint Benedict (5-5-1) outshot the Oles (0-10-1) 14-3 in the first period, but couldn't find the back of the net. Senior
Maddie Dockry started the scoring four minutes into the second period with her third goal of the year, which came off an assist from
Courtney Conlin.
Bria Ferns scored the eventual game-winner in the final minute of the second period. The sophomore's first goal of her CSB career came at the 19:10 mark off assists from
Shelby Schneider and
Kylie Eklund.
The Oles cut CSB's lead to one 30 seconds later when they scored on the power play, but that's as close as Saint Benedict let the Oles get.
CSB outshot St. Olaf 16-6 in the third period and notched four goals to ice the win.
Julia Pias started things off at the 4:37 mark with a power-play goal off assists from
Annika Brodt and
Rylan Bistodeau. All was quiet for several minutes until the 11-minute mark when
Courtney Conlin notched her fifth goal of the season, and she added goal number six a minute later on the power play. Conlin's second goal came at the 12:11 mark off assists from Dockry and Eklund.
Schneider wrapped up the game with an empty-net goal at the 15:40 mark. The goal – her first of the season – came off an assist from
Reegan Patnode.
Saint Benedict finished Sunday's game with 41 shots on net to St. Olaf's 18.
Mollie Wise – who had a goal in each of CSB's games earlier this weekend – led the team with seven, and
Rylan Bistodeau added five.
First year goalie
Maggie Gilchrist got her first career start in net Sunday, and ended the game with her first career win. She finished the game with 17 saves to help her team pick up its fifth win of the year. Five wins is the most in a season for CSB since 2015-16 when it finished 7-15-3.
CSB is back in action and returns to MIAC play Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11-12, when it takes on Bethel. The two teams play at 7 p.m. Friday in Blaine, and CSB is at home for the first time since November at 3 p.m. Saturday in St. Cloud.
