CSB looks to build on momentum in weekend series with Royals

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After two wins in three games last weekend, the College of Saint Benedict hockey team is looking to use that momentum to pick up its first MIAC sweep of the weekend. CSB plays a pair of games against Bethel University, starting with a 7 p.m. road contest at Bethel Friday night in Blaine, and ended with a 3 p.m. home game Saturday at the MAC.

This marks the team's first MIAC contest in more than a month, and the first time CSB has played at home since mid-November.

ABOUT THE ROYALS
Bethel heads into the weekend series on a two-game winning streak after sweeping Northland to start 2019. The pair of wins marked the team's second and third of the season, and the Royals are still looking for their first MIAC win of the year. Bri Stafne leads the team with seven points and four goals, and Mallory Tidona has 233 saves to lead the team in net.

LAST MEETING
Bethel and CSB split the 2017-18 series, with each team winning on its home ice. Saint Benedict picked up a 3-2 win - its lone MIAC win last season - at home in St. Cloud, and the Royals won 6-3 the next night. Rylan Bistodeau and Courtney Conlin each scored in the loss, and Kailee Medved had 45 saves in the win.

THE STORYLINE
After not playing a game for a month, CSB came out hot last weekend, going 2-1 on a three-game road trip. The team's biggest win of the weekend came Sunday when it beat St. Olaf 6-1 and scored four third-period goals. CSB looks to use that momentum to pick up a few more MIAC wins.

WHO TO WATCH:
Courtney Conlin scored a trio of goals last weekend to bring her season total to six, and Maddie Dockry and Kylie Eklund both had three assists. Mollie Wise scored in overtime to help CSB beat Marian, and Bria Ferns scored the first goal of her career against the Oles. First year goalie Maggie Gilchrist got her first career start and first career win after making 17 saves against St. Olaf. Senior goalie Julia Carle picked up her first win of the season in overtime against Marian.
