Riley Schneider scored a pair of goals, but it wasn't enough for the College of Saint Benedict hockey team as it fell 7-2 to St. Thomas Friday night in St. Paul.
The Tommies – ranked No. 10 in Division III – led 4-0 after one period, but Schneider scored two goals within five minutes to start the second and get CSB within two. The goals were the fourth and fifth of the season for Schneider, who is second on the team with 11 points this season. Senior
Brigette Miller assisted on both of Schneider's goals.
Schneider's first goal came 15 seconds into the second period, and the second came at the five-minute mark, and the remainder of the second period was scoreless for both teams.
The Tommies (14-3-5, 10-1-4) added three more goals in the first seven minutes of the final period to extend their lead and seal the win.
CSB, which is now 2-18-1 overall and 1-13-1 in the MIAC, had 14 shots on net to UST's 46. Miller had four shots on net and Schneider added three. Junior
Julia Carle started the game in net and made seven saves in 12 minutes before
Kailee Medved took over when UST took a 4-0 lead. Medved finished with 32 saves in just under 48 minutes.
Saint Benedict and the Tommies are back in action at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the MAC in St. Cloud.
