CSB Hockey bested by St. Thomas, 6-1

ST. CLOUD, Minn.- The College of Saint Benedict hockey team would notch the first goal of the night, but six unanswered St. Thomas goals would bury CSB in a tough 6-1 loss on Saturday afternoon at Dave Torrey Arena.

Rylan Bistodeau would open the scoring for Saint Benedict (2-19-1, 1-14-1) 7:47 into the game when she polished off a beautiful play from Riley Schneider to put her third goal of the season in the net.

St. Thomas (15-3-5, 11-1-4 MIAC) would make good on their first two power play opportunities however, scoring five minutes after Bistodeau's goal and again with just three seconds remaining in the opening frame.

The Tommies would add three more goals in the second period, all at even strength. CSB would stay out of the box in the middle frame, and had four quality scoring chances but Kenzie Torpy would stand tall.

CSB played their best period of the night in the third period, when their defense held the Tommies in check for the first nine minutes. However, a Brigitte Miller interference penalty immediately following a faceoff would set up another power play for the No. 10 team in Division III women's hockey. Erika Bjorkman would put a cap on the scoring for UST, and solidify the 6-1 final score.

St. Thomas would outshoot CSB by a 47-11 margin, but the faceoff margin would be much closer, with the Tommies barely edging out CSB 31-27. Kailee Medved would make 41 saves on the night, while Torpy would finish with 10 saves.

Saint Benedict will return to home ice on Feb. 16 when they host Gustavus at 7:30 p.m. to open the final series of the regular season.
