CSB Hockey plays tight game, falls to No. 6 Gustavus 3-1

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The CSB hockey team closed out their regular home season schedule with a tight 3-1 loss to the No. 6 ranked team in the nation, Gustavus.

Saint Benedict (2-20-1, 1-15-1 MIAC) and Gustavus (18-2-4, 12-2-3 MIAC) played to a scoreless first period, as first year goaltender Kailee Medved stopped all 15 shots that Gustavus threw her way.

It would be CSB who would convert first, as a GAC penalty early in the second period set up Rylan Bistodeau's power play goal off the feed from Brigitte Miller to give Saint Benedict the 1-0 lead. The goal was Bistodeau's fourth of the season, her firrst power play goal and her third in the last four games.

Gustavus would answer soon after as their ace, Kaitlyn Klein would net her own power play goal, her 22nd on the year, and tie the game up at one a piece.

The score would remain knotted at one into the third period when a frenzy in front of Medved ended in Gustavus' Katy Fuller lifted the puck high glove side to lift her team to a 2-1 lead. Gustavus would add to their lead with 36 seconds remaining in the game as they banked a shot off the boards that would bounce into the CSB empty net.

Medved would match her second-highest career total of saves in the game, stopping 44 on the night. Her counterpart, Amanda DiNilla would stop 13 of the shots sent her way on the night.

CSB will close out their season Saturday, Feb. 17 when they travel to St. Peter to complete the series with a 2 p.m. puck drop.
