NORTHFIELD, Minn. – For the second straight game, the College of Saint Benedict basketball team used its long-range game to help seal up another win.
CSB hit 10 3-pointers en route to a 58-33 win over St. Olaf Saturday afternoon in Northfield. This is the third time this season Saint Benedict has hit double-digit 3-pointers as it also hit 10 against Concordia on Wednesday and a season-high 12 on Jan. 10 against St. Kate's.
The win marked the 19
th of the season for Saint Benedict, which is 19-2 overall and 13-1 and in second in the MIAC. The Oles are 3-18 overall and 1-13 in the league.
Saturday's game got off to a slow start for both teams, as CSB held a slim 10-9 lead after the first quarter.
Megan Thompson hit a three to start the second, but the Oles hit two baskets and converted a three-point play to take a 16-13 lead with 6:48 left in the second before
Sidney Schiffler hit a three to spark a 14-0 CSB run to end the half with CSB up 27-16.
CSB extended its run to 30-0 and took a 27-point lead, 43-16, before St. Olaf scored its first points of the third quarter. Saint Benedict outscored the Oles 16-3 in the third to end the quarter with a 43-19 lead, and held on from there for the win.
Thompson and Schiffler both hit three 3-pointers for CSB. Thompson led the team with 13 points and Schiffler added nine points and six rebounds.
Niki Fokken also had eight points and five rebounds for CSB, which shot 36.5 percent from the field and went 2-for-7 from the line. CSB had 28 rebounds and 12 turnovers.
Samantha Tisa led the Oles with 12 points and five rebounds. St. Olaf shot 35 percent from the field and went 6-for-9 from the line. The Oles had 27 rebounds and 24 turnovers.
Saint Benedict is back in Northfield Wednesday, Feb. 7, when it takes on Carleton at 7 p.m.
