ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - The College of Saint Benedict basketball team looks to take its winning ways on the road, as it travels to Northfield to take on St. Olaf, Saturday, Feb. 3 for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
About St. Olaf
The Oles enter the game with a 3-17 overall record, and a 1-12 mark in the MIAC. St. Olaf's lone MIAC win was its last one, a tight 60-59 victory over Macalester on Jan. 10. The Oles are coming off a tough 87-51 loss to Bethel on Jan. 31, despite a fourth-quarter rally that fell shy.
St. Olaf is lead offensively by junior Makenna Ash, who is averaging 10.9 points a game. Ash also accounts for the best shooting percentage from the field at 48.4 percent, and is also a standout in St. Olaf's defensive plan, grabbing 130 total rebounds. Sophomore Samantha Tisa has the most points for the Oles, racking up 189. First year Keegan Mulvihill has proven to be a force behind the play, dishing out 43 assists, and stealing 48 from opponent's possession.

Saint Benedict started slow, falling behind 15-9 after the first quarter, but charged back in the second quarter to take a 29-23 lead at half, and ultimately a 52-34 victory on Dec. 10. First year
Megan Thompson had a highlight-reel game, going 5-for-8 from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arch, and 5-for-6 at the charity stripe, to post a career-high 18 points on the night to lead CSB. Sophomore post
Alex Johnson grabbed six rebounds, and she combined with Thompson to dish out three assists each.
Who to Watch
Sophomore
Sidney Schiffler is coming off a career-high 18 point game, and continues to prove that she is a force to be reckoned with from beyond the arc. She is shooting 50 percent from three-point range (28-for-56), and is the best shooter in the MIAC from long range. Senior
Niki Fokken continues to lead the way offensively for CSB, averaging 13.2 points per game, with classmate
Chelsey Guetter close behind averaging 10.4 points. Guetter continues to pace CSB on defense, grabbing an average of 6.3 boards per game.
The Storyline
CSB earned its 18
th win of the season on Jan. 31 when it defeated Concordia 74-54 at Claire Lynch Hall. The win moved CSB's overall record to 18-2 and its conference record to 12-1. Saint Benedict sits in second place in the standings behind St. Thomas, the only team to deal it a MIAC loss. CSB and the Tommies are the only two teams to qualify for playoff action thus far, with only five remaining games in the regular season. CSB's schedule picks up intensity in the closing frames, as it is scheduled to play the third- and fifth-place teams in the MIAC standings. CSB hosts third-place Gustavus for a Valentine's Day showdown, and closes out the season with a rematch against St. Thomas in St. Paul on Feb. 17.
