CSB tennis picks up two wins

SARTELL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team picked up a pair of nonconference wins Saturday afternoon. CSB started the day with an 8-1 win over Northwestern (Iowa), and wrapped up weekend play with a 9-0 sweep of Martin Luther at Sta-Fit in Sartell.
 
"We have had a great first month of tennis, and we keep moving forward every weekend," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "Matches are only going to get more important as the season goes along, and we need to keep pushing ourselves. Next weekend will be a good test for us, and I know we are up for the challenge."
 
CSB (6-1) swept doubles play against Northwestern. Tessa Rahrick teamed with Kayla McIver for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, Ellen Stensrud and Mackenzie Schurhamer won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and Erin Kolbow and Lauren Clark won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
 
Rahrick won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Kolbow picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. The Red Raiders' only win of the morning came at No. 3 singles, but McIver won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles, Schurhamer won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Clark wrapped up the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
 
CSB was just as good against Martin Luther. Rahrick and Kolbow won 8-2 at No. 1 singles, Stensrud and Kylie Miller won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and Schurhamer and Clark won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
 
Rahrick won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Stensrud picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles and Schurhamer won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Clark won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4 singles, Miller 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and Gabbie Noack wrapped up the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
 
CSB is on the road Feb. 25 when it travels to St. Paul to take on St. Thomas in its second MIAC match of the season.
