ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the second night in a row, the Hamline offense was too much for the College of Saint Benedict hockey team to overcome.
After falling 6-1 Thursday in St. Cloud, CSB wrapped up the season series with the fourth-ranked Pipers with a 7-1 loss Friday evening at the TRIA Rink in St. Paul. Hamline moves to 4-0 on the year while Saint Benedict is now 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC.
Hamline scored a pair of goals in the first three minutes of play to go up 2-0 early, but CSB held the Pipers off the board the remainder of the period. Hamline had two more goals in a three-minute span midway through the second – including a power-play goal – but
Courtney Conlin scored her second goal of the season to make it 4-1. Conlin's goal came shorthanded following a CSB penalty.
The Pipers increased their lead early in the third with a goal in the second minute, and added a pair of goals 45 seconds apart at 8:43 and 9:02 in the final period.
CSB finished the night with 14 shots on net to Hamline's 46. Senior goalie
Julia Carle added 39 saves to her season total, and she hit double-digit saves in each period.
Zoe Culshaw-Klein had three shots on net to lead CSB and
Riley Schneider and
Shelby Schneider each added two.
CSB is on the road again Friday, Nov. 16, when it travels to Northfield to take on St. Olaf.
