ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Sophomore goalie
Kailee Medved nearly had a career night for the College of Saint Benedict hockey team Thursday night when No. 4 Hamline came to town.
Medved finished the game with 44 saves – one away from her career-high of 45 – in CSB's 6-1 loss to the Pipers. Hamline scored three goals in each of the first two periods, but Saint Benedict kept the nation's fourth-ranked team off the scoreboard in the third and final period.
Hamline – which is now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC – got off to a fast start with three goals in the first six minutes of play. The Pipers scored at the 2:30 mark, made it 2-0 with a power-play goal at 4:43 and added a third goal at the 6:05 mark of the first period to take a three-goal lead.
But CSB settled in from there, and Medved finished the first period with 13 saves. Hamline added another trio of goals in the second, starting with a power play goal at the 5:24 mark, but junior
Courtney Conlin got Saint Benedict on the board at the 8:17 mark of the second with her first goal of the season on a power play.
Maddie Dockry was credited with the assist. Conlin is the seventh CSB player to score so far this season.
Hamline added goals at the 11:19 and 15:29 marks in the second period, but that ended scoring for the game. Medved had 19 second-period shots, and stopped all 12 shots she faced in the final period to keep the score at 6-1.
CSB finished with 13 shots on net to the Pipers' 50. Conlin led the team with three shots on net and
Mollie Wise and
Shelby Schneider each added two.
Saint Benedict heads to St. Paul Friday for a 5 p.m. contest against the Pipers at the team's new home rink – which also serves as the Minnesota Wild's practice facility.
