Ana Birklid swims the breaststroke at Macalester

Birklid, Groebner win three events to lead CSB swim and dive

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team won 12 individual events and one relay en route to a first-place finish Saturday afternoon at the Roger Ahlman Invite. CSB finished first with 508 points, host-school Macalester took second with 350 and Gustavus finished third with 349.
 
Leading the way for Saint Benedict were first year Ana Birklid and senior Ashley Groebner, who each won three individual events. Birklid won the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle races and Groebner won the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 200 IM. Birklid finished the 100 free in 56.94 seconds, the 200 in 2:02.19 and the 500 in 5:31.14. Groebner won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.62, the 200 in 2:33.95 and the 200 IM in 2:23.17.
 
A pair of divers recorded scores in the top-10 in CSB history. Junior Mallory Jarvi won the three-meter competition with a mark of 253.75 – the second-best score in school history, and first year Kylie Egger finished fourth on the one-meter board with a score of 196.20, the 10th-best mark in CSB history. Jarvi took third on the one-meter board (205.65) and Lisa Pahr took fifth (185.55), and Kathryn Ellingson finished fifth in the three-meter competition (133.25).
 
First year Mikayla Von Wahlde added two more wins to her season total Saturday. She won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.04 and the 200 back in 2:11.21. Morgan Gerhardt won the 1,000 free in 11:33.63, and Zoe Allyson made it a CSB sweep in the freestyle, winning the 50 free in 25.61 seconds. Saint Benedict wrapped up the day with a win in the 200 freestyle relay as Allyson, Skyler Clough, Nicole Lefebvre and Meghan Kratz teamed up to take first in 4:24.49.
 
Lauren Christiansen finished second in both the 100 backstroke (1:04.62) and 200 backstroke (2:17.29), and Sydney Weires finished fourth in the 100 back (1:07.04) and Lefebvre was fourth in the 200 back (2:26.43).
 
Gerhardt also took second in the 500 free in 5:37.78. Allie Crum took third (5:44.01) and Kratz finished fifth (5:46.28). Crum took second in the 200 free (2:06.35) and Kratz took third (2:08.16), and Allyson (59.40) and Crum (59.71) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100 free.
 
Clough took third in both the 50 free (26.97) and 11 fly (1:08.55), and Grace Livermore took fifth in the 100 fly in 1:09.59. Lefebvre finished third in the 1,000 free (11:51.01), Morgan Murphy took fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.04), Madi Davis finished fourth in the 200 fly (2:39.04) and Christiansen, Murphy, Livermore and Kratz took second in the 400 medley relay in 4:24.49.
 
Saint Benedict is on the road and competes in its first dual meet of the season Saturday, Nov. 17, when it takes on St. Thomas in a 1 p.m. dual in St. Paul.
