ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – In her first season as full-time setter, sophomore
Katie Koch reached a career milestone Wednesday night.
In the third set of a sweep of Macalester, Koch recorded the 1,000
th assist of her career for the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team. She headed into the match with 971 this season and 977 total in her two-year CSB career, and wrapped up the match with 34 assists to push her career total to 1,011.
Koch's 34 assists helped CSB beat Macalester 3-0 in its final home match of the regular season. Saint Benedict is now 22-6 overall and 9-1 in the MIAC, and has won nine of its last 10 matches. With one match left in the regular season, CSB is securely in second place in the conference standings.
Saint Benedict used solid serving and an efficient night at the net to beat the Scots (9-17, 0-10) 25-13, 25-12 and 25-12. CSB hit .303 for the match – including .452 in the first set – to Macalester .000. CSB had eight blocks to the Scots' one, and five service aces.
Hunter Weiss finished with a team-high 12 kills and hit .632 on the night with no errors.
Liz Schultz added nine kills and
Madison Weiss added eight and a .615 hitting percentage with no errors. As a team, CSB had just 11 hitting errors in 109 attempts.
Madison Weiss also had five total blocks and
Lauren Mathews finished with three. Schultz led the defense with 12 kills and
Haley LaValle, Koch and
Allison Roehl all added nine.
Nicole Bennington and Sofia Parmelee led the Scots with seven kills each. Emily Bower had 19 assists and Abrielle Dillon led the defense with 14 digs.
CSB wraps up the regular season Saturday at Concordia. The MIAC Tournament starts Tuesday, Nov. 30, with the third through sixth seeds in action, while the one and two seeds get a bye.
