ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team took care of business Saturday afternoon in St. Paul, picking up a 3-0 shutout of Hamline. The win keeps CSB in sixth in the MIAC, and moves the team to just a single point behind St. Kate's in the conference standings.
With two games left in the regular season, St. Thomas leads the league and Bethel is in second. Saint Benedict is in sixth with 16 points and the Wildcats are fifth with 17 points. CSB is now 6-6-1 overall and 5-31 in the MIAC.
Saint Benedict came out strong Saturday, and outshot the Pipers (4-11-1, 1-8) 11-0 in the first half. CSB got on the board in the 19
th minute when
Brianna Griffin scored her third goal of the season off an assist from
Madelyn Curtis.
Megan Thompson made it 2-0 10 minutes later when she scored her team-high eighth goal of the season off an assist from
Laurel Poole.
That lead held through the remainder of the first half, but CSB added one more in the 80
th minute when
Clara Noack scored the third goal of her career, this one off an assist from Thompson.
CSB finished the game with 20 shots to Hamline's seven, including a 13-2 edge in shots on net. Noack and Thompson both finished with three shots on net and Griffin added two. Junior keeper
Kendall Koenen stopped both shots she faced to pick up her second shutout of the season.
CSB is back at home for the last time in the regular season Wednesday, Oct. 24, when it hosts Hamline at 3:30 p.m. The team wraps up the 2018 regular season Saturday when it heads to Northfield for a 1 p.m. game at Carleton.
