ST.JOSEPH, Minn.- The College of Saint Benedict basketball team has won 10 in a row, and it looks to keep the good times rolling when it plays host to MIAC rival St. Thomas on Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall. The winner of the game takes sole possession of first place in the MIAC as both teams boast 9-0 conference records heading into the match-up.
About St. Thomas
The No. 13 Tommies boast a 14-2 overall record, only suffering losses to No. 4 Bowdoin and Luther on the season. St. Thomas has won seven straight games entering the weekend, including five straight MIAC wins. The Tommies lead the MIAC in points per game (74.9), field-goal percentage (47.4), and three-point percentage (38.8). The team is led by junior Hannah Spaulding, who leads the league averaging 19.9 points per game, and is shooting a league-leading 70.5 from the field. Johnson is also the top rebounder in the league, grabbing 166 boards this season.
Last Year
Saint Benedict was swept by St. Thomas in their three meetings last season. The Tommies defeated CSB 79-35 early in the season, followed by a 65-40 win by the then-No. 3 Tommies in late January. CSB will be looking for a little bit of post-season redemption against the Tommies, as St. Thomas ousted Saint Benedict 75-52 in the second round of the MIAC playoffs to end CSB's season.

Chelsey Guetter and
Niki Fokken continue to lead the way for CSB, followed in short order by classmate
Kate Banovetz. Fokken is averaging 12.3 points per game, while Guetter is producing an average of 10.3 points per game. Sophomore
Sidney Schiffler leads the team's three-point offense, shooting an impressive 45.7 percent from beyond the arc. The senior class leads the way in rebounding, with Guetter grabbing 106 total rebounds, Fokken has 93, and Banovetz has 67 boards on the season.
The Storyline
Saint Benedict is hoping to continue its stellar season, as it has now matched its best start to a season with its 15-1 record. In the 2003-04, the team started 15-1 in route to 21-5 final record for the season. This is the first time since 2002-03 that the team is 9-0 in the MIAC. CSB received 29 votes in this week's D3hoops.com poll, and will play two of its next three games in Claire Lynch Hall before closing out the season with three of its final five games on the road, including a season finale at St. Thomas.Â
