CSB returns home to host Scholastica

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After starting its home season with a win over Hamline last week, the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team is back home in search of its second straight win. CSB hosts the College of Saint Scholastica at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in Claire Lynch Hall.

About the Saints
St. Scholastica is 5-11 overall and 1-2 when playing on the road. The Saints head into Tuesday's match coming off a 3-0 loss to nationally ranked Northwestern on Friday. Christaia Houser leads the team with a 121 kills and 39 blocks, Espi Austvold has 355 assists, and Taylor Thompson has 164 digs.

Last Meeting
St. Benedict beat St. Scholastica 3-0 in Duluth last season. CSB won the first two sets handily, but the Saints came bounding back in the third only to fall short of forcing a fourth set, 26-24. Liz Schultz and Briana Schmiesing both had 10 kills, Megan Pekarek had 38 assists and Haley LaValle led the team with 12 digs.

Who to Watch
Megan Pekarek won MIAC Setter of the Week honors for the sixth time in her career last Monday after recording 184 assists to help CSB finish 4-1 the previous week. She is third in the MIAC with 9.95 assists per set and has 428 assists to her name. Senior Liz Schultz has 117 kills and is second in the MIAC with 0.56 service aces per set. First year Hunter Weiss leads CSB with 127 kills, and twin sister Madison Weiss is second in the league with 1.07 blocks per set and second in the MIAC with 46 total blocks.

The Storyline
After grabbing a home court victory on Friday over Hamline, CSB looks to stay on track with a nonconference win Tuesday night. Saint Benedict also looks to take advantage of playing on its home court and bringing its record over .500. A win Tuesday would also help give CSB some momentum as it heads into a pair of MIAC matches this weekend.
